What is cross car racing?

FMSCI president called cross car racing the future of Indian Motorsport

Cross car racing has small off-road buggy operated by motorcycle engines, including autocross, dirt oval, rallycross track, or even stadiums. Globally, this is the first step in the motorsport for several rally and rally Cross racers. Importantly, the relatively low cost involved in manufacturing and maintaining these cross cars makes an ideal format to improve their skills for young racers.

And it is fine that the Global Motorsport Governing Body FIA (Federation International Day L’Tomobile) launched its ‘Affordable Cross Car’ project, which led to the manufacture of JA Motorcysts XCL2. The project is designed to reduce obstruction of entry by providing various national sports officials with design blueprint. The goal is to manufacture cross cars using local manufacturers locally citrus parts and materials, which can reduce costs and reduce dependence on international suppliers.

Historically, cross car racing has senior and junior categories, and the FIA now added two new classes under the top levels. The first is level 1, which will serve as the entry level for young racers. Then the intermediate level 2 is aimed at initial competitions or even holiday racing.

Talking to Autocar India last year, FMSCI President Arindam Ghosh called Cross Car Racing “The Future of Motorsport” not only in India, but globally. At that time, he also worked in a single-spec championship. It can also serve as a support chain for the Indian National Rally Championship.
