Saudi Arabia GP: Lindblad becomes the youngest F2 race winner

Red bull racing junior Arvid lindblad F2 history (17 years, eight months and 11 days of age) became the youngest winner after the victory in the Saudi Arabia GP Sprint race inherited. Richard Verscore of MP Motorsport first crossed the checker flag, but Josep Maria Marti was forced to expel from the track.

Marti finished second behind his team partner Lindblad, handing the Campos running his first 1-2 in the F2 Championship. Alexander Dune of Rodin Motorsport completed the podium.

Starting from the sixth on the grid, Lindblad was already up to P4 at the end of the first lap. He then used DRS to overtake Gabriel Mini on Lap 3. Next to him, Marti passed the Polisiter Varschur around the outside, which was briefly on Turn 1 to lead the race. Varschur saw the place again in the next lap, but the stewers eventually understood that they had forced their rival off-track and punished Varschur for five seconds.

At Lap 8, Lindblad moved to second place as Marti widen on Turn 8. He was held on the spot by the end of the race, and since Verscur’s penalty was confirmed in the last lap, Lindblad inherited the victory in front of his team partner Marti.

“Really happy with today’s result, the youngest F2 race winner ever. A great thanks for the team, a very good race coming from P6 to P1. A shame is a shame for Richard for Penalty, but super Happy is that the victory and are looking forward for tomorrow,” Lindblad said.

Penalty dropped Varschur to P4, followed by Roman Stanak. Mini beat Leonardo Forenaroli to take P6 on the final lap, while Victor Martins caught the last point with P8 Finnish.
